Apex Training launches new green skills training programme at Scotland’s National Retrofit Centre

Apex Training has entered into a strategic partnership with Scotland’s National Retrofit Centre at the BE-ST Innovation Campus in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, to deliver a comprehensive and flexible green skills programme.

The collaboration will enable individuals to gain industry-recognised credentials and practical experience, supporting entry into high-demand roles across the UK’s growing green economy.

Apex Training, powered by Fedcap’s Verdancy Group, delivers flexible, industry-led green skills training across the UK, with courses designed and taught by experts actively working in the sector today.

Apex Training will start courses this month and headquarter its operations from the BE-ST Innovation Campus which is also Scotland’s national innovation centre for the built environment. This follows the launch of its Apex Training Centre in Basingstoke, England, in early 2025.

Steve Kiakowski, Director of Green Skills at The Verdancy Group, said: “We’re delighted to have begun delivering our green skills programmes from Scotland’s state-of-the-art facility in Hamilton. The building itself has undergone a full retrofit, making it the ideal place to base our operations.

“By choosing the BE-ST Innovation Campus as our home, we will remain at the forefront of low-carbon construction, digital innovation, and retrofit best practice – ensuring our learners receive best-in-class green skills training.”

The Verdancy Group, joined not-for-profit organisation Fedcap last year, and is expanding and strengthening its training offer through its Apex Training brand. It is also benefiting from the experience of Fedcap’s Apex Technical School which has been a leading vocational training institution in the U.S. for more than 60 years.

Christine McMahon, President and CEO of Fedcap, said: “Fedcap has a long-standing commitment to expanding opportunity for individuals in barriered communities who are often furthest from the workforce. By combining Fedcap’s social mission with Apex Training’s sector-specific expertise, The Verdancy Group is developing forward-looking programmes that respond to the real workforce needs of the decarbonisation industry and wider society.

“Establishing a base at the National Retrofit Centre strengthens our ability to contribute to Scotland’s transition to a net zero economy, while supporting growth and workforce development at every level.”

Stephen Good, CEO of BE-ST said: “We are excited to welcome The Verdancy Group, one of Scotland’s most innovative low carbon training providers, as our new partners and tenants on campus. We look forward to collaborating to expand support to those across the sector looking to upskill over the next few years.”
